How to Build a Pro-level Tennis Court with Terrain®

Tennis has always been one of the most popular sports in the world and is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance in the Middle East. Even as tennis courts become a mainstay in apartment complexes, schools and even homes, many people are not aware of some critical factors they need to consider while constructing a pro-level facility.

In this guide, we will help you navigate the world of building high-performance tennis courts in UAE, Saudi Arabia, and the rest of the Middle East.

Choose the right location
As with all things construction, choosing the right location is the first and most important step. Tennis courts can be made both indoors and outdoors, depending on requirements. You will need a space that is well-ventilated and spacious. Make sure that the soil moisture is appropriate and that you have all necessary permits before work begins. A north-south orientation is ideal for a tennis court since it keeps players from being affected by sunlight.

Select the surface type and color scheme
The ATP Tour uses three main types of playing surfaces: Grass (Natural or Artificial), Clay and Hard. In the Middle East, with its hot sun and soil conditions, artificial grass or hard courts using acrylic are the preferred surfaces since they are easy to use, install and maintain. Terrain Acrylic System comes in two variations - Standard and Comfort - and can also be color-customized as required. Hard courts are used in two of the world’s four major tennis tournaments: the Australian Open and the US Open.

Prepare the surface
Make sure that the tennis court is built on a strong, level foundation which is clear of debris. Adequate drainage should be incorporated into the surface to prevent water accumulation during cleaning or occasional heavy rains. If it’s an outdoor court, windbreakers can also be installed to protect from sandstorms.

Installation
For both acrylic and artificial grass tennis courts, you will need to install a concrete base first. Once the foundation is set, the chosen surface can be installed. This par, more than anything else, is best left to professional flooring companies like Terrain since it ensures quality, performance, and court longevity. Terrain’s expert team will ensure that the surface is smooth and meets all required standards.

Markings, nets and accessories
The right markings are critical for a pro-level tennis court. Terrain’s professional court builders will ensure that all lines are accurately drawn and all necessary accessories like nets, lights, etc. are installed as required.

Maintaining a tennis court is just as important as its construction. Terrain tennis courts are designed for easy cleaning and maintenance - most of the time, all you’ll need is a brush and some water. In the Middle East where there is a lot of sand and dust, the tennis court might need frequent cleaning, especially if it’s outdoors.

Building a pro-level tennis court in UAE, Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Middle East is a job best left to the experts. That will ensure that it meets all necessary standards, and you’ll have a court on which you can serve, volley and enjoy the exciting sport of Tennis for many years.

FAQs

Rubber flooring can be built of synthetic or natural materials, including recycled tyres. Because of its elasticity and bounce, it falls under the category of resilient flooring.

Our regular dimensions for the Eco tiles are 50x50 or 100x100. And the thickness starts from 15mm to 70mm. However, since we are manufacturers of these products, any customization can be possible.

We usually maintain stock for the regular items. However, on average we should take 7-10 days to produce 100 sqm of tiles. (For a specific enquiry, feel free to get in touch with us for the accurate lead time. It could be ready in stock or can take within 2-3 days to deliver.)

Terrain tiles: 1-2 days
Seamless flooring: 3-5 days
Rubber rolls: 2-4 days

Color fading is a normal process due to exposure to UV radiation. However, for outdoor applications, we use a special material to limit the yellowing effect on the flooring and increase the longevity of the product.

An initial smell in the rubber products is normal. However, with enough ventilation post installation, the smell should go away. If it doesn’t, feel free to get back to us. We will work out a solution for you.

We offer a warranty of 2 years for all Terrain manufactured products.

We offer a variety of test reports for our products. For more information, please visit the Downloads section of our website.
