Understanding Colour Variations in Active Rolls (Gym Rolls): It’s Not a Production Issue!

When it comes to gym flooring rolls made from SBR rubber granules and EPDM, you may sometimes notice that the colour shade looks slightly different depending on the angle you view it from. This effect often leads customers to believe there’s a production or colour mismatch — but in reality, it’s a natural phenomenon caused by light refraction.

What Causes This Effect?

SBR and EPDM rolls are made using rubber granules of different sizes, shapes, and surface textures. When light falls on the surface, it reflects differently off each granule. Depending on the angle and intensity of light, this reflection can make one roll appear darker or lighter compared to another, even if both were produced from the same batch.

Light and Refraction in Action

In the two photos below, you can see the same set of rolls from two different viewing angles.

From one side (View 1), all rolls appear uniform in colour.

From another angle (View 2), one roll looks different (Darker in shade) — but actually all the rolls are from same production batch. This difference is purely visual, caused by light refraction and granule orientation on the surface.

Conclusion

Such variations are normal in granulated rubber flooring and do not indicate a production defect. Lighting conditions such as natural sunlight, indoor LEDs, or even your viewing position can influence how the colour appears to the eye.

At Al Khaleej Polymers Rubber & Plastic Industries LLC, we ensure every roll meets the same quality and colour standard during production. However, due to the nature of rubber granules, slight optical shade differences are part of the product’s authentic appearance.

FAQs

Rubber flooring can be built of synthetic or natural materials, including recycled tyres. Because of its elasticity and bounce, it falls under the category of resilient flooring.

Our regular dimensions for the Eco tiles are 50x50 or 100x100. And the thickness starts from 15mm to 70mm. However, since we are manufacturers of these products, any customization can be possible.

We usually maintain stock for the regular items. However, on average we should take 7-10 days to produce 100 sqm of tiles. (For a specific enquiry, feel free to get in touch with us for the accurate lead time. It could be ready in stock or can take within 2-3 days to deliver.)

Terrain tiles: 1-2 days
Seamless flooring: 3-5 days
Rubber rolls: 2-4 days

Color fading is a normal process due to exposure to UV radiation. However, for outdoor applications, we use a special material to limit the yellowing effect on the flooring and increase the longevity of the product.

An initial smell in the rubber products is normal. However, with enough ventilation post installation, the smell should go away. If it doesn’t, feel free to get back to us. We will work out a solution for you.

We offer a warranty of 2 years for all Terrain manufactured products.

We offer a variety of test reports for our products. For more information, please visit the Downloads section of our website.
